Barry Allikas: Galerie Deux Poissons
Galerie Deux Poissons' programme for Art Toronto 2019 is a solo booth presentation of Montreal hard-edge abstract painter Barry Allikas. Allikas is a well-known, established senior artist in Quebec, with paintings in the permanent collections of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, National Museum of Fine Arts of Quebec, Hydro Quebec, the Banque Nationale, Canada Council Art Bank, and many others of the highest standing and quality. The Montreal Gazette named Allikas one of the top five abstract artists in Montreal - and Galerie Deux Poissons believes that he could come to be seen as at the same level in the rest of Canada as well. Allikas is known for his exceptional technique in hard edge painting - Claude Tousignant said of him that he makes the crispest, sharpest edge of any Quebec Plasticien. Allikas’s signature abstract imagery and palette is powerful, personal and broad in scope, from muted tones and simple compositions to eye-popping Op Art chromatic displays and designs.
